Students with Place Corp in collaboration with the Wooden Boat School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum launched their boat into the Hudson River at Kingston Point Beach Friday afternoon, June 7, 2024, christening it the "Floating Purple People Eater, AKA Sandy Cheeks" The group started building the boat in Sept. of last year along with learning maritime history and natural sciences of the Hudson River. Place Corp is a "10 month fellowship program in Kingston, NY for 18-21 year olds who are curious about alternatives to immediately enrolling in college, or entering the workforce full-time after high school".
