"One for 'Chicken Little 3-D/
please."
Even as I asked for my ticket,
I felt slightly uneasy about
spending an hour and a half in
a movie theater full of smelly
kids and their sighing parents.
The last time I remember seeing
anything in 3-D was probably at
Disneyworld in the mid-'90s.
I entered the theater and
held onto the neon green 3-D
glasses and prepared myself
for a cheesy half-entertaining
cartoon. Though as I slowly
tried them on, I couldn't help
but spawn a giddy smile. As
the movie began, the crowds'
reactions to a new "3-D world"
included a chorus of "whoa" and
"awesome" echoing from chil-
dren in the audience.
The movie is based on the old
fable about a crazy little chick
who is convinced the world is
about to end! Young Chicken
Little sends the whole town in an
uproar when he rings the school
bell announcing a state of emer-
gency and announces, "The sky
is falling! The sky is falling!" His
"piece of sky" turns out to be a
fallen acorn, and soon Chicken
Little (Zach Braff) becomes

The plot roller coasters
through Chicken Little's adven-
tures as he attempts to restore
his reputation, though all he
really wants is to win his father's

starting to look up, a piece of

help of his group of "unpopular"

all forces of nature in an effort

week with a special 3-D showing
at 84 selected theaters across the
nation. Director Mark Dindal
("The Emperor's New Groove")
has created a happy-go-lucky,
fun, yet dramatic, comedy
It is witty and creative, and
made for more than just chil-
dren in a lot of aspects.
Braff plays Chicken Little, and
it's the first time the 30-year-
old "Scrubs" star has voiced an
animated character.
There are many action-packed
scenes that include the gang's
adventures with a flying saucer-
spaceship, running away from
evil alien robots and trying to
rescue a lost alien kid, all while
trying not to send the town into
an uproar. The 3-D animation
puts everything in your face,
almost pulling you into the
scenario. It sounds ridiculous,
I know, but it's rad.
My only complaint is the
soundtrack. The corny tunes
give the movie a "Shrek"-like
feel, and sometimes the songs
are a little over the top.
Overall, "Chicken Little"
sends the message that commu-
nication is key, even though the
ones you love are sometimes the
hardest to talk to.
"Chicken Little" is now playing
at most theaters, and to see it in
3-D, elite style, head to the Rave
Theater in Hickory Creek.
Cheesy? Yes. Is it worth seeing?
Definitely. Needless to say, as I
exited the theater, I was feeling
pretty awesome about my 3-D
movie experience. My friend
and I gave each other a high
five, and went about our days
with a smile.
