NOTE: This article is about the incarnation of William Afton from The Silver Eyes. The mainstream version can be found here.

I helped him create. We both wanted to love. Your father loved. And now I have loved.
~ William Afton referencing his and Henry's separate work as he's being interrogated.
I’ve been a master of all these creatures... All the animatronics are linked together; it was a system designed to control the choreography for the shows. Now I control the system. I control the choreography. All of this is mine.
~ William Afton as Springtrap.
Jessica: Everyone is afraid to die. And you should be more afraid than anyone else, because if there's a Hell, there's a hole at the bottom of it reserved for you.
William: In time, I'm sure that's where I will find myself. But the devil has knocked on my door before, and I've turned him away.
~ William Afton in response to Jessica telling him that Hell has a special space reserved for him.

William Afton is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's novel trilogy. He is the archenemy of Charlotte "Charlie" Emily.

He is the father of Elizabeth Afton and the co-owner of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and Fredbear's Family Diner, establishments he helped open with his business partner and friend Henry Emily. However, William would soon murder both Henry's daughter Charlotte and later five innocent kids at Freddy's. Ten years after the murders, Afton assumed the false identity of Dave Miller and worked as a security guard at the abandoned mall built over the old pizzeria.

A confrontation with an animatronic recreation of Charlie ended with his painful demise, as she triggered a springlock malfunction while he was wearing his Spring Bonnie suit. But in death, this allowed him to become the undead Springtrap, using his newfound connection to the performance system he commanded his creations to hunt down and kill Charlie and anyone who gets in their way, later choosing to have her captured and brought to him instead. Thankfully Springtrap was stopped, but escaped before he could be defeated.

Six months later, he surgically removed much of the Spring Bonnie suit but began to slowly die. With the assistance of his daughter, Afton opened a new restaurant to kidnap more children and replicate how his victims possessed the animatronics, hoping to find the secrets of immortality. However, thanks to the efforts of Carlton, the souls of his victims turned on Afton and dragged him into a furnace, burning him alive thus and ending his reign of terror.

Appearance[]

Young[]

Originally in the 80s, William was shown to be quite overweight with ruddy skin. He had dark brown hair in the neat shape of a combover, pale silver eyes which were described as being “dead” "dull" and "flat", a rather toothy large smile and sharp facial features. For his attire he wore a white dress shirt with a yellow bow tie.

“Dave Miller”[]

Later on when he used the alias Dave Miller he had lost weight and was shown to be tall, skinny, with a long neck (much like his main series counterpart in the SAVETHEM minigame). His hair was much longer and unkempt, his skin was pale and sickly and his eyes were tired, baggy unfocused and sunken. His teeth were also crooked, yellowing and had a chip in them. For his attire he wore a security guard uniform consisting of a white dress shirt with black shoulder pads, a loosely worn black tie, an open collar and a name tag on his right peck that spelled “Dave”. He also had black dress pants and matching shoes as well as a utility belt with keys and a pouch.

Spring Bonnie[]

While wearing the Spring Bonnie suit, Afton appeared as a bright yellow rabbit with a boxy head and muzzle, a large black nose, buck teeth, segmented ears, and hands that had five fingers each (as opposed to the animatronics that only had four). It had ears as well as the stomach had a peach-tan coloring and Spring Bonnie even sported a red bow tie with two black buttons. Through the eyeholes of the suit one could see Afton’s own eyes creepily glaring. After being out of use for ten years the suit was in slightly worn condition. There were scratches and dirt marks all over the suit as well as exposed wiring.

Springtrap[]

As Springtrap, William’s body was trapped inside the Spring Bonnie suit following his lethal spring-lock failure in the first book. The suit became withered, dirty and stained in Afton’s blood, having several holes and scratches all over it with the right rabbit ear on the suit having rotted away. Unlike his game counterpart the Springtrap suit retain its yellow coloring (as the suit only decayed for one year rather than 30). Inside the suit was William’s corpse although it was intact it was ravaged, twisted and scarred by the spring-locks. William also lost several of his teeth and his bloodshot gray eyes could be seen through the eyeholes of the suit.

Disfigured[]

After removing the Spring Bonnie suit, William was left in critical condition. He was painfully thin, so thin that when he smiled his tendons could be seen moving like snakes under his skin. His head was bald and covered in pink ridged scars, and where there were no scars were strange metal pallets fused to his head. his scalp was torn off, leaving all but a small patch of hair which still grew. One of his eyes were missing, which was shot through with a thin steel rod. In the middle of his torso was a mass of twisted flesh that was diagonally sewn together with black stitching thread. The new scars from the latest spring-lock incident were angry-red in color. He wore silky purple pajamas with a robe and a pair of slippers.

Personality[]

Afraid of them, now? ...Don’t fear them. Fear me... I’m the only thing in this room you should be afraid of... I’m just as dangerous as I always have been.
~ William Afton intimidating a child he has kidnapped.

William Afton is an evil, selfish, and sad*stic murderer. He kills any witnesses to keep from getting caught. Nevertheless, he is still a determined and extremely fierce serial killer, who will not hesitate a single moment to get in a fight with any of his foes or murdering people for experiments or his own amusem*nt. William Afton is also rather ungrateful, having murdered Charlotte Emily, despite the fact that if it wasn't for her father, then the franchise wouldn't have achieved its earlier success. Afton is also abusive and neglectful towards his daughter, Elizabeth, who later on seemingly only accepted her once she became Baby. However, he continues to act abusive towards her regardless. Afton prioritizes his work over his own family.

He sometimes appears to be a compassionate man, but like many serial killers, this is just a mere façade that he uses to manipulate others, especially children. In The Silver Eyes, after he realized that the children's souls are trapped into the cursed place, for a time, Afton actually believed this to be a good thing, while he was in fact trapping his victims' souls in the animatronics forever. He momentarily refers to his victims as his "family". He is fascinated with the animatronics to the point where he disguises himself as one of them until he becomes that in his Springtrap form.

It is shown in The Twisted Ones that upon becoming Springtrap and being released from the small room he was trapped in, William is in an invigorated state of being, having felt powerful due to his newfound strength and his control of the Twisted Animatronics. He expressed how he felt like he was ‘more’ than both his past self and Henry.

In The Fourth Closet, once he escaped from the Spring Bonnie suit, William began to regain his sanity, which in turn made him feel that he doesn’t need to be inconspicuous due to his state of condition. He is miserable, commanding and impatient, yet he still remains to be theatrical, even when he is in pain. Considering the fact that his organic, human body is full of mechanical parts, William seemingly has a tolerance for pain, as he continues to commit experiments.

Despite popular belief, William is not actually insane, as he makes mention of the fact that what he is doing is wrong, yet goes through it anyway, likely suggesting that he does not care about morality and simply does it for his own gain. However, it is previously learned in The Silver Eyes that he had an unhealthy obsession with Henry, so obsessed to the point where he wrote countless diaries about him ranging from jealousy to near worship, proving that he wasn't very mentally sound to begin with. He also appears to have no regrets, as he says that killing the missing children led to great things.

It is shown that William is calm and exact with his murders, suggesting that he has a different way of showing delight in committing his cruel and twisted acts. This is also alluded to later on in The Fourth Closet, where when he is about to kill an innocent boy for his next experiment, he tells the child with a grin that even if it doesn't work, he will at least enjoy killing him, just like he enjoyed killing his past victims years ago.

William fears one thing and one thing only, and that is death. While in his weakened state in The Fourth Closet, he expresses that he is afraid of thinking about how his time is running out, how he’d die if his goal of transporting his soul into a robot isn't achieved. He also mentions how he would rather live eternally in the state he is in than pass on.

Biography[]

Background[]

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (2)

Not much is none about Afton's early life but it's shown he owned and created a company known as Afton Robotics which he would use to supply parts for his creations. He also had a daughter named Elizabeth, however it’s unknown who her mother was. Later on William met a man named Henry Emily and the two became business partners. They purchased a dance hall in New Harmony, Utah and used it to open a local restaurant called Fredbear's Family Diner with it's two mascots being the titular Fredbear and his companion Spring Bonnie which were springlock suits, animatronic/costume hybrids. Henry and William would also preform in the suits for the children at the diner with Afton mainly wearing the Spring Bonnie suit. However during a Halloween party in 1983, Afton donned his Spring Bonnie suit and kidnapped and murdered Henry’s three year old daughter Charlotte presumably out of petty jealousy.

While William was suspected of committing this murder, he wasn't charged; as a result, the diner ends up closing down, likely because of unpopularity. Henry's wife and his son Sammy then leave him which consequently causes him to go insane from his grief and invent four robotic duplicates of Charlie to simulate her growing up as a means of coping with his pain. However, Afton ended up stealing the fourth and final one, intending to use it for his own machinations.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (3)

William then became focused on finishing the robot he stole from Henry and turning it into his own creation a animatronic called Circus Baby. One day when Elizabeth came home from kindergarten she tried to show her father a piece of artwork she created only for William to strike her across the face twice for disturbing him while he was working. Elizabeth then became obsessed with Circus Baby and that obsession led to her death at the hands of Afton's creation as well as Baby being possessed by the spirit of Elizabeth. Henry would then take back Baby and lock her inside of the fourth closet in his house, hoping that it would never be opened.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (4)

Henry and Afton then established Freddy Fazbear's Pizza a few miles south of Hurricane, Utah, with it's main mascots being Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. However in 1985, Afton disguises himself as Fredbear and lures five children named Gabriel, Susie, Fritz, Cassidy and Michael Brooks to the backroom and murders them all. To hide the evidence of his crimes he stuffed their bodies into the animatronic suits. However his victims souls would end up haunting the animatronics with Michael specifically haunting the same suit that Afton used to lure them in.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (5)

Afton was then arrested by the Hurricane Police Department specifically by a detective named Clay Burke. The police searched his house and found the Spring Bonnie suit as well as multiple journals which detailed a strange obsession with Henry. Despite everyone on the force agreeing he was the killer and all signs pointing to him being guilty of the crime, without the bodies of the children as evidence, the police couldn’t convict him. The Hurricane Police Department had no choice but to let William go and he took this chance to skip town. Out of grief from both his daughter and the five children's deaths, Henry commits suicide, and the pizzeria is closed down, resulting in a mall being built over it, but said mall was abandoned as well as the owners felt a strange presence emanating from Freddy's and didn’t think it felt right to open a business there.

Sometime afterwards, Afton would then return to Hurricane under the false identity "Dave Miller" and got a job as security guard at the abandoned mall to stay with his victims souls as his "family"

The Silver Eyes[]

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (6)

Ten years later in 1995, a memorial was held by the parents of the late Michael Brooks, and Charlie and her childhood friends, John, Carlton, Lamar, Jessica, Marla and her little brother Jason return to Hurricane to attend it. Charlie and her friends then decide to sneak into Freddy's for old times sake only to be confronted by the security guard "Dave". "Dave" questions why they are here and even surmises they might be there to party and take drugs, and thus he threatens to call the police. However Charlie assures him that they are not up to anything mischievous. They are simply there to explore Freddy's and she suggests that he lead the way. "Dave" seeing this as an opportunity to kill them all obliges and leads them on a tour of the building.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (7)

He leads them through the mall and explains the history of why the place was abandoned before it opened. Apparently the owners of the mall felt a strange presence emanating from Freddy’s one that spilled out to the rest of the building. Thus the businesses that were supposed to open their stores quit their contracts and left, effectively shutting down the mall before it opened. “Dave” even jokingly insinuates that the reason might be due to a 'mystic energy". “Dave” also claims that since the place closed no one comes here save for kids hoping to fool around and him of course. Charlie however is weary of "Dave" and notices a large weird scar on the back of his neck. Once they enter the restaurant Charlie and her friends attempt to use the control panel under the stage to get the animatronics to preform but they don't know how it works. "Dave" then offers to work it for them and uses his mechanical expertise to program the show and get the animatronics to preform perfectly much to Charlie’s shock. However the animatronics soon catch a glimpse of "Dave" and presumably recognize him as their killer. They then begin glitch out and break free from the stage.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (8)

In the chaos, "Dave" drops his guise and excitedly runs into the backroom and opens a locker to retrieve the Spring Bonnie suit, even caressing it longingly. Wearing the suit, Afton then sneaks into Pirate Cove and kidnaps Carlton. When the group of friends notices that Carlton was missing, they report it to his father, the now police chief Clay Burke, but these claims were not taken seriously, due to Carlton's habit of being a troublemaker. However thanks to prodding from Carlton's mother, Clay sends Officer Dunn to Freddy's to investigate Carlton's disappearance. However, Afton hides in the Spring Bonnie suit and pretends to be an empty costume inside an locker only to immediately grab Dunn by the neck when his guard is down. Afton then pulls out a knife and stabs Dunn straight in the heart killing him. The last thing Officer Dunn see's is Afton pale dead silver eyes.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (9)

Later on Carlton wakes up and finds himself trapped in the torso of an animatronic suit. Afton then arrogantly strolls in the room in his Spring Bonnie suit and mockingly bows to Carlton. Carlton is naturally angered at Afton for kidnapping him but William tells him not to move, citing it as a “friendly reminder”. William then tells Carlton that he is inside a springlock suit which were created to function as both animatronics and wearable costumes. Afton says that the springlocks hold back the animatronic parts inside the suit which allows for a person to fit inside. He demonstrates this by getting the head of the suit and pressing one of the springlocks which causes two metal spikes to be released.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (10)

Afton explains that the suit he put Carlton in is a very old model one of the first made by Henry whom he reveals is Charlie’s father. He goes into great detail on how excruciating a death via springlock failure would be. Afton says that first the springlocks and the mechanical parts inside the suit would snap back into place making deep cuts all over his body. He notes that Carlton may try to scream but his vocal cords will be severed by the spring locks leaving him unable to. He finishes off the description by saying that the suit will grown wet with his blood until he ultimately drowns in it and that he’ll know he’s dying for a long time. Carlton nervously asks how he knows how bad a springlock failure would be, to which he maliciously replies, “How do you think”. William then takes off the torso of his suit and reveals his horrendously scarred body from a narrowly survived springlock failure and sad*stically screams “Don’t Move”.

Charlie and her friends return to the pizzeria to search for Carlton. Once they find him they free him from the springlock suit before it goes off. William then confronts the teenagers only to be knocked out by Charlie with a metal pipe. Charlie and her friends tie him up with some wire and interrogate him on his actions. However, William feigns into a catatonic state and does not respond to them. Carlton then calls out William for murdering the five kids ten years ago. Although, John doesn't believe him, Charlie confirms that it’s true, Afton did kill those children. John, enraged at Afton punches him square in the jaw for his actions and even calls him a jackass.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (11)

Even then, Afton continues to remain unresponsive to them until he eyes the mask of his Spring Bonnie suit. Charlie then places the mask on his head in which he finally begins to talk. Charlie confronts Afton for betraying her father Henry but he claims that he helped him to create and that Henry loved and now he has loved. Carlton tells him that he’s essentially imprisoned the children in the animatronics but he insists that the kids he killed are home and together with him as a family, citing it as their "Happiest Day". He then tells Charlie and her friends that the animatronics don't take kindly to adults and will murder any they see. Although they point out that they technically aren’t he claims that they still look old enough to be. William even taunts that they will all be killed by the animatronics and he will walk over their corpses one by one and leave in the morning. They of course point out that he will be killed as well seeing as he was the one who murdered them in the first place, however he claims that he will survive as he is "one of them", intending to use his Spring Bonnie suit as a disguise. However once the group leaves William escapes his bonds and locks himself in the security office to protect himself from the animatronics and watch as Charlie and her friends are killed.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (12)

The group however manages to survive the animatronics wrath thanks to help from their old friend Michael who now haunts Golden Freddy. Michael keeps the animatronics at bay long enough for Clay to break in the restaurant and rescue Charlie an her friends. Afton realizing he’s going to get caught, grabs Charlie by the neck and threatens to choke her to death unless they comply with his demands. Remembering all the horrible things Afton has done, Charlie reaches into the neck of the suit and sets off the springlocks telling him that if he wants to be one of them he can be one of them. The springlocks then pierce, crush and mutilate Afton's entire body, slowly killing him just as he described would happen. William then vehemently screams in pain and collapses on the floor, twitching in agony while lying in a pool of his own blood. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy - then drag the dying Afton away into the depths of the building.

The Twisted Ones[]

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (13)

One year after the traumatic events Charlie went through at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, she decides to attend college close to Hurricane. She is soon informed by Clay that Freddy's has finally been torn down by the police department. However much to her horror she is informed that despite police searching the building, Afton's body wasn't found but they did find fake blood on the ground which makes Clay theorize that William may have faked his death. Charlie and Jessica then go to the remains of Freddy's and find the Spring Bonnie suit with Afton's mutilated corpse still trapped inside. Satisfied with the conformation of his death the girls take their leave but little did they know that Afton was somehow still alive.

Afton as some point leaves the pizzeria in his new form and creates the Twisted Animatronics, grotesque perversions of Henry's creations, brought to life by illusion discs which were manufactured by Afton Robotics. Afton ordered these machines to hunt down and kill or capture Charlie for an unknown goal. The Twisted One's go on a murder spree across the county killing a few people who remotely look like Charlie or get in their way. Oddly enough their corpses were found to have wounds on them similar to the ones suffered from a springlock failure.

After some investigating and several stakeouts Charlie foolishly decides to confront the animatronics alone hoping to get answers pertaining to the "death" of her twin brother Sammy. However, Twisted Freddy captures Charlie and brings her to an underground replica of Freddy's. It's here where her, John, Jessica and Clay come face to face with not only the Twisted One's, but William Afton himself now trapped in the withered Spring Bonnie suit citing it as “becoming one with his creation”.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (14)

The group questions who or what he is to which he insanely boasts that he is no longer William Afton or Dave Miller, he is Springtrap and claims that he is far more than Afton ever was and far more than Henry. He reveals that the Twisted One's are linked to a system designed to control the choreography of the shows and since he controls that same system the animatronics solely obey his commands. Charlie asks what he's after but Afton insists that he won't hurt her friends but she has something that he needs. Clay then shoots Springtrap with his gun but it does no damage at all and he consequently goes on the offensive and attacks Charlie and the group. The gang tries to make the animatronics short circut by dowsing them in a waterfall but this does not work. Springtrap laughs at their futile attempt and claims that his animatronics are far better built than Henry's and would not be susceptible to such a trivial thing.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (15)

Suddenly however the original animatronics arrive on the scene and assist Charlie by destroying their twisted counterparts. Springtrap then grabs Charlie by the neck and tries to choke her like he did at the end of the Silver Eyes. However this time Charlie is prepared and breaks Springtrap's grasp. She grabs a metal spike, driving it into Sprintrap's chest and beating him to a pulp. Charlie demands to know why Springtrap killed Sammy all those years ago but Springtrap laughs and taunts her for her delusions, claiming he didn't kill Sammy, he killed her. The underground pizzeria then begins to cave-in and Springtrap escapes through a hidden trapdoor. Despite Charlie and her friends escaping, Springtrap got the last laugh as one of his creations, Twisted Freddy managed to capture Charile in his chest cavity and seemingly kill her via a springlock failure. However afterwards a woman meets up with Charlie's friends and pretends to be her with only John seeing through this facade.

The Fourth Closet[]

Sometime after his escape, Circus Baby reunited with William and became his accomplice, although like before he showed no care nor consideration towards her and treated her like a pawn. Presumably with Baby’s help William managed to undergo an operation and remove most of the Spring Bonnie suit and reclaimed his identity as William Afton. However several pieces of the suit were still lodged in his body and no matter how many operations he went through he could not get all metal shrapnel removed. Ultimately, his injuries coupled with the complications of his various operations left Afton both scarred, disfigured and in a constant state of agony, needing to rely on a wheelchair just to get around.

Realizing he will die from his injuries sooner or later he captured the original animatronics and fused their endoskeletons into one amalgamation to find out how his victims possessed the animatronics in the first place. William hoped to replicate the process on himself and gain immortality by transferring his soul into a robot. He also has Baby impersonate Charlie as well as kidnap several kids to experiment on. As a front for his experiments he also opened a restaurant called Circus Baby's Pizza where he designed the animatronic performers Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy and the Baby Crawlers. Afton extracts portions of his victims souls from the amalgamation and shapes them into the concentrated substance called Remnant which he injects into his new creations to give them life and make them subserviant to him. He however desires to learn the secrets of Charlie's creation. He knows that she is an animatronic replica of the real Charlie one that is not imbued with a soul, but with Henry's own emotions, his Agony. He then orders Baby to find a capture Charlie to uncover the secrets of Agony.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (16)

Later on he experiments on the amalgamation in his lab. During the process it begins to move prompting him to tell Baby to raise it's temperture two more degrees. Baby somewhat disturbed claims that the amalgamation is in pain, but Afton coldy states that he doesn't care and demands she raise the temperture anyway. Baby however informs Afton that raising the temperture might destroy it. However, William claims that the amalgimation cannot be destroyed and it can onkly serve a greater purpose and they will become more like she did. He extracts the concentrated remnant from the amalgamation and injects it into Funtime Freddy, giving the animatronic life. He then orders Freddy to leave saying he has no more use for him. He then tells Baby that since Clay Burke kept the animatronics in his basem*nt their final component (Charlie) might be there. Although, Baby insists she had already checked Afton demands she check again.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (17)

Sometime afterwards William watches as the fires roar in his furnace when he is confronted by Baby. Afton then goes on a rant about how anyone can find a fire already burning like they have (obviously in refrence to his discovery of remnant). However, found something a unique spark (agony) that he did not intend nor derserve to stumble upon. He question why Baby does not have it yet to which she reveals she could not find it. Afton says that she has dissapointed him and usual. Baby then asks her father if she still isn't enough to which he coldy responds with a no. Baby leaves intent on finding Charlie and appeasing her father.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (18)

Sometime afterwards, Baby captures Jessica when she attempts to follow her. As Jessica tries to escape she is confronted by Springtrap which dances and sings a twisted song to her. However, it's not the real Afton but a endoskeleton he made to look like Springtrap to scare Jessica. The real Afton emerges from the darkness in his horribly decrepit state. He greets Jessica and states they meet again in yet another new form of his. He explains that his injuries are slowly and painfully killing him but of course Jessica does not feel bad for him considering his unspeakable atrocities. Jessica even taunts William by telling him that he should be more afraid to die than anyone, because if there is a Hell, there’s a hole at the bottom of it reserved just for him. Afton agrees with her statement but arrogantly claims that he has "turned the devil away before". Jessica then accuses him of faking his death back at Freddy's by using fake blood, however he confirms that he did no such thing and that the fake blood they found cannot belong to him. He then explains his master plan; to transfer his soul into an animatronic to become immortal. He has both a begrudging Jessica and Baby preform an operation on him to remove his kidney and smash it into the amalgamation hoping for some kind of result. He then takes Jessica prisoner and locks her away with the other kids he kidnapped.

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (19)

Soon, Charlie's friends break into the building and rescue the children. However, Carlton decides to go rescue the last child Jacob and put an end to Afton's machinations for good. As, Carlton confonts Afton, the latter reveals the power behind Remnant. He claims that it's best to put it in something you can control to an exent saying that doing so can create a monster with unlimited potential. Carlton then see's to his horror the extent of what he did to the animatronics. However, William claims that the animatronics do everthing for him willingly as they remember his as he "used to be" and still trust him. William then injects Carlton in the heart with molten hot Remnant, wondering what would happen if a human were to be the subject of it. Carlton then collapses on the ground and Afton is disappointed by the result believing that injecting it into his heart may have been too direct but brushes it off and claims that it’s simple "trial and error".

William Afton (Novel Trilogy) (20)

As Carlton is knocked out the Remnant allows him to enter a realm where he is able to communicate with the souls of the children. The children however still think that Afton is the benevolent Spring Bonnie and are completely subservient to him. However, Carlton puts together a drawing that depicts what Spring Bonnie truly is; the monster that took their lives. Afton then decides to conduct a final experiment on Jacob by killing him and transferring his soul into the amalgamation, desperate to unlock the secrets of immortality. William although notes that he doesn’t actually know how to transfer Jacob’s soul and intends on trying various likely painful methods to do so. He does take solace in the fact that at the very least he'll have fun killing him just like he killed all the other kids over ten years ago. However the amalgamation soon regains control of itself and grabs hold of Afton, dragging them both into the fires of the furnace, which incinerates both the amalgamation and William himself, putting an end to his reign of terror for good.

With William Afton finally dead, the deaths of Charlie, Elizabeth, Michael, Henry and all the innocent kids he murdered are at last avenged. The souls free from the control of their nemesis fade away, passing on into the afterlife together in peace.

~ Afton as "Dave Miller" confronting Charlie and her friends for trespassing into the abandoned mall.
I'm not an idiot. I know whats back there. Anyway, the names Dave.
~ William introducing himself as Dave Miller to Charile and her friends.
Lamar: Why is this mall abandoned.
"Dave": You don't know? Nobody wanted to lease Freddy's, because of what happened. Then they decided to build a mall attract business, you know. Someone had the bright idea to seal Freddy's up. Build a mall around it. But it wasn't enough. Something about this place spilled over to the rest of the building. Barely anyone wanted to bring their business here. Those few franchise owners who were about to open their shops quit there contracts and left. Said it just didn't feel right. I think it's got an aura. A mystical energy, maybe if you believe in that sort of thing.
Lamar: I don't believe in that sort of thing.
"Dave": To each their own. All I know is, they abandoned the construction before it was even finished. Now nobody comes here... except kids wanting to screw around. And me...
~ “Dave” explaining why the mall was abandoned
Nervous little fella, aren't you?
~ William taunting Bonnie.
Carlton: What kind name for a serial killer is "Dave"?
William: I told you not to speak. It's not an order. It's a friendly reminder. Do you know what I've put you inside?
Carlton: Your girlfriend?
William: You're amusing. But no. You're not wearing a costume. These suits were designed for two purposes. To be worn by men like me... and to be used as working animatronics, like the ones you can see onstage. Understand?
~ William explaining the functionality of springlock suits
And, if you accidentally trigger those spring locks, two things will happen: First, all the locks will snap right into you, making deep cuts all over your body, and a split second later all the animatronic parts they've been holding back, all that sharp steel and hard plastic, will instantly be driven into your body. You will die, but it will be slow. You'll feel your organs punctured, the suit will grow wet with your blood, and you will know you're dying for long, long minutes. You'll try to scream, but you will be unable to. Your vocal cords will be severed, and your lungs will fill with your own blood until you drown in it...
~ William sad*stically explaining the excruciating pain of a springlock failure.
HAHAHAHA! DON'T MOVE!
~ William telling Carlton not to move lest he trigger the springlock and die a painful death
Now you've done it.
~ William confronting Charile before being knocked out.
No. They are home with me. Their Happiest Day.
~ Afton on the kids he had killed.
There isn't a way out anymore. All that's left is family.
~ Afton telling Charlie and her friends they can’t escape.
Oh, you're something beautiful, aren't you?
~ Afton to Charlie.
John: Well, then you're trapped too, and you're not going to be hurting anyone else.
William: I don't have to. When it gets dark, they will awaken; the children's spirits will rise. They will kill you. I'll just walk out in the morning, stepping over your corpses, one by one.
~ William taunting Charlie and her friends.
William: They don't remember; they've forgotten. The dead do forget. All they know is that you are here, trying to take away their happiest day. You are intruders. You are grown-ups none of you will survive the night.
John: And what makes you think they won't kill you?
William: Because I am one of them.
~ Afton stating his confidence at the possibility of surviving the night because of his Spring Bonnie suit.
You are staying; I will kill this one right here, while you watch, unless you do as I say.
~ Afton threatening to kill Charlie; also his final words.

The Twisted Ones

They don't care about you. I'm the one who brought you here. You have something that belongs to me.
~ William reavealing himself
I’ve accepted the new life that you gave me. You’ve made me one with my creation. My name is Springtrap! I'm far more than Afton ever was and far more than Henry.
~ William proclaiming himself to be Springtrap.
I wont hurt your friends, But there's something I need from you.
~ Springtrap attempting to manipulate Charlie.
Did you think my robots would be as poorly designed as your fathers?
~ Springtrap insulting Henry.
Here we are again, Charlie. Just as I had you once before...
~ Springtrap putting Charlie in a chokehold just like at the end of The Silver Eyes
Charlie: Tell me my you took him! Why did you choose him! Why did you take Sammy?!
Springtrap: I didn't choose him. I didn't take him. I took you.
~ Springtrap hinting about the fact he killed Charlie all those years and not Sammy.

The Fourth Closet

Baby: It's moving.
William: Of course it is. Of course they are. Raise it two more degrees.
Baby:It looks like it's... In pain.
William: I don't care. Do it.
Baby: They're afraid. You're at risk of destroying them.
William: No they remember me as I used to be. And they can't be destroyed! They can only serve a greater purpose. They'll become more like you did. Go! I have no more use for you now.
~ William experimenting on the Amalgamation.
And as for you.. the Police Chief kept the animatronics hidden in his basem*nt for quite some time. Perhaps he hid out the final component there.
~ Afton ordering Baby to find Charile
Anyone can discover a fire already burning. As we have here. But Henry found a unique spark, created something truly different, something he didn't intend or deserve to stumble upon.
~ William questioning how Henry managed to re-create Charlie without the need for a soul.
William: Enough theatrics.
Jessica: Wait, I know that voice. William Afton.
William: Very good. Did you like the dance? I thought you might like to see me as I was. A familiar face. So we meet again, in yet another form. You remember Dave the security guard, a simple charade to move about without notice. And of course you've met Springtrap. The thrilling fusion of man and technology. I confess he made me ecstatic with power, delirious over my newfound strength. But pain changes all things, as does time. Scalp torn from my head, scraps of metal interwoven throughout my whole body, not to mention your friend Charlie’s additions.
~ William revealing his decrepit state to Jessica.
Fake blood? I'm afraid I've spilled plenty of real blood. I had no need to fake it. Whatever "fake blood" your police friend found, it was someone else's. But let's put the past behind us, hm? There's exciting work to be done.
~ William on the discovery of fake blood found at Freddy's.
Jessica: Who'd you murder now?
William: No one new.
Jessica: That was a little kid... Your'e the one kidnapping them...
William: HA HA HA, Jessica, please look at me. I can't kidnap anyone like this. Those days are behind me but... I do have Circus Baby's Pizza attracting huge crowds of people. Trusting children complacent parents. Isn't that right Baby?
~ William revaling what he's been up to as of lately.
William: What you see before you is a combination of all sorts of machinations and magic. Some of my work. Some of Henry's. Who knew not to re-create the illusion of of life when your mind can do it for us.
Jessica: She's more than illusion though.
William: Quite right, but that's why were here to discover the secret of that last ingredient, the spark of life. Sometimes great things come at a great cost. We are here to re-create the accident, to replicate older experiments, inching ever closer to immortality.
~ William annoucing his goals to become immortal.
Yes. Heat. Heat is the key to all of this. Makes it malleble, moldable, and one might even say contagious. Best to put it something you control to some extent. Of course you can make something you control completely with no will of it's own. A car. A gun. A dancing robot. Boring. But one drop of "pixie dust".
~ William explaining the power of Remnant.
My time is running short. Unfortunate I hoped to learn something. But maybe that's not the problem. Maybe we just need some new life in this mass of metal. You'll have to forgive me, though as I'm not quite sure how to do that either. I can think of a few things to try. At the very least, it will be fun, like old times.
~ William preparing to kill Jacob for his own sick pleasure.
No! Stop it. Cooperate.
~ William trying to kill Jacob.
What-is this!? Noooo!!!
~ William Afton's last words before he's dragged into the furnace by the Amalgamation.

Referring to William[]

There was something almost immediately off-putting about the man. He was tall and slightly too thin for his uniform, which bagged at the shoulders and waist, as if he had once been a more robust man but had lost his form somehow to illness or tragedy; his name tag, reading DAVE, hung askew on his chest. His skin was sallow, and his eyes were undercut by heavy lines, adding to the impression of longstanding ill health.
~ The Silver Eyes description of William as "Dave Miller".
We did arrest someone. I did, in fact, and I am as sure now that he was guilty as I was then.
~ Clay Burke talking about Afton's arrest following the murders.
“But kidnapping,” Charlie said. “They disappeared!” She was suddenly furious, appalled at the obvious injustice. “How can this man be walking around somewhere? What if he does it again?” She felt Marla’s hand on her arm, and she nodded, settling back, trying to calm down. But the anger was still there inside, seething under the surface of her skin. Clay was looking at her with something like curiosity in his eyes “Charlie,” he said, “justice penalizes the guilty, but it must also protect the innocent. It means that sometimes the guilty get away with terrible things, but it is the price we pay.”
~ Clay and Charile discussing the injustice of Afton getting away with his crimes.
It had occurred to Carlton years before that there were two types of nasty people: There were the obvious ones, like his sixth-grade English teacher who yelled and threw erasers, or the kid in fifth grade who picked fights with smaller children after school. That type was easy, their offenses public, brutal, and undeniable. But then there was the other kind of petty tyrant, those who grew spiteful with their small scraps of power, feeling more and more abused by the year—by family who did not appreciate them, by neighbors who slighted them in imperceptible ways, by a world that left them, somehow, lacking something essential. Before him stood someone who had spent so much of his life fighting like a cornered rat that he had taken on the mantle of bitter sadism as an integral part of himself. He would strike out against others and revel in their pain, feeling righteously that the world owed him his cruel pleasures. The guard’s face, with its malevolent delight in Carlton’s pain and fear, was one of the most terrifying things he had ever seen.
~ Carlton's description of Afton and his malevolent nature.
There was nothing to find, really. They knew who did it. At first he had suspected Henry, just like so many others around town. It was a terrible thought, but it was a terrible crime; there was no solution that would not be shocking. He had not been the one to question Charlie’s father, but he had read the transcript. The man had been almost incoherent, so shaken that he could not give straight answers. He sounded as if he were lying, and to most people that was proof enough. But Clay had resisted, had delayed having him arrested, and sure enough they came to William Afton, Henry’s partner.
~ Clay reffering to when Afton was suspected of the murders. As well moment William Afton's name was revealed in the franchise.
William Afton was the one who made Freddy’s a business, as he had the previous restaurant. Afton was as robust and lively as Henry was withdrawn and shadowy. He was a hefty man who had the ruddy geniality of a financially shrewd Santa Claus. And he had killed the children. Clay knew it; the whole department knew it.
~ Clay Burke recalling William from back in the 1980s.
He had been present for each abduction, and he had mysteriously and _ briefly vanished at the same time as each child went missing. A search of his house had found a room crammed with boxes of mechanical parts and a musty yellow rabbit suit as well as stacks of journals full of raving paranoia, passages about Henry that ranged from wild jealousy to near worship. But there had been no evidence, there had been no bodies, and so there could be no charge. William Afton had left town, and there was nothing to stop him. They did not even know where he had gone.
~ Clay recollecting the investigation on William and how he left town.
The background check application was labeled “Dave Miller,” but it was unmistakably William Afton. Afton had been fat and affable; the man in the picture was sallow and thin, his skin sagging and his expression unpleasant, as if he had forgotten how to smile. He looked like a poor facsimile of himself. Or maybe, Clay thought, he looked like he had dropped his disguise.
~ Clay realizing that Dave Miller is actually William Afton.
“No, it’s true,” Charlie whispered. John gave her a searching look, then turned to the others, who had no more answers than Charlie. He looked back at Dave with an expression of renewed disgust. Seeing John’s face, Charlie was suddenly struck with the weight of memory. Michael, who had been a cheerful, careless little boy, Michael who had drawn portraits of them all, passing them around with a solemn pride. Michael who had been killed, whose final moments must have been all pain and terror. Michael, who had been killed by the man before them. She looked to the others, and on each of their faces she saw the same single thought: This was the man who killed Michael.
~ Charlie and her friends realizing that Afton was the one who killed Michael and the five kids.
Charlie looked up at the man in the rabbit suit, and he met her gaze. "It was you. You killed Michael. You killed Sammy. You took them from me." His eyes should have held something fierce and dangerous. They should have been windows to the rotten core inside. But they were only eyes, flat and empty.
~ Charile showing contempt and disgust towards William's actions.

Trivia[]

  • Just like his mainstream counterpart, his reasons for killing children and becoming a serial killer is unknown, and since the novel trilogy has ended, it's possible that his motives and backstory will remain as such. Although all signs point to Afton simply committing his actions out of pure bloodlust and jealousy.
  • Even though The Fourth Closet shows he's trying to become immortal through the use of remnant from his victims, it's only because of his weakened state from being in the Spring Bonnie suit.
  • The novel version of Afton is widely attributed to being the inspiration behind his character in franchise going forward. Originally in the first four games, William was known to be a vague and extremely mysterious figure dubbed as the Purple Guy. However the Silver Eyes gave William a true characterization and personality as well as revealed his name to be William Afton to begin with. Ultimately the novel version of Afton influenced his game counterpart and every version of him thereafter, thus giving William his iconic character.
  • In the The Fourth Closet, William seems to think very lowly of his “Dave Miller” persona, claiming it was only a disguise to fool others and nothing more. He also seems to have a low opinion of security guards in general, saying "It doesn't take a thespian to play an idiot night guard".
  • William’s Spring Bonnie suit appears slightly different from the games with it being shown and described to be simply a recolored version of Bonnie rather than having it’s own unique design.
  • While a man speculated to be Afton is featured in the cutscenes of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, the graphic novel version of The Silver Eyes marks the first time in the franchise that his appearance has been confirmed. However, since this is an alternate timeline, his video game counterpart might look different.
  • Some believe that William’s design in the novels could also apply to his game counterpart. The reasoning is that Afton’s appearance in the graphic novel takes many elements from his game counterpart previous appearances.
    • He has Afton's tall skinny frame, long neck, large sad*stic smile and sharp jawline from the SAVETHEM minigame in FNAF 2.
    • His pale gray eyes which he had as Springtrap and Scraptrap and in the Fruity Maze minigame.
    • His pale white skin and large ears which he also had as Scraptrap.
    • He also appears to bear a striking resemblance to his son in the games, Michael Afton, possibly because it’s established that they look quite similar.
    • Additionally the appearance of the Afton in the graphic novel ended up applying to both his film counterpart and Fazbear Frights counterpart.
  • Susie, one of the victims of the Missing Children Incident, talks about how "Spring Bonnie" found her dead dog and promised to give it back to her, until William revealed himself and killed her. This is referenced in the Fruity Maze minigame in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Simulator, where the face of a girl resembling Susie's description can be seen, but the minigame takes a darker turn as the fruits are replaced with dead dogs and Spring Bonnie can be seen beside the girl. The minigame is believed to be an allegory for Susie's murder in both the novels and the games.
  • According to Baby's flashback in The Fourth Closet, it's shown that William used to be abusive towards his own daughter, Elizabeth, where he pushed her to the ground and stomped on her graded work from school, which she showed to impress him, and even hit her when she tried to retrieve it, sending her running away in tears. As a final attempt to gain her father's approval, she merged herself with his favorite creation Circus Baby, who feels jealous towards Charlotte Emily for having a better life than she did when she was alive. Had William not abused Elizabeth, she wouldn't have become Baby, nor would she have been corrupted into the envious and resentful killer that she became.
    • The original Afton warned Elizabeth never to approach Baby (since he programmed the machine to kill children) and sent Michael down to the facility to free Elizabeth after she died, hinting that he may have cared for her (although it's later revealed that his love was superficial). Here, Afton never showed any consideration towards Elizabeth, and outright had no care for her whatsoever.
  • Even though Afton’s daughter Elizabeth exists in the novels, it’s unknown if his sons Michael Afton and the Crying Child did. Although it’s highly unlikely to be the case, as they were never any indication of them whatsoever.
  • In The Fourth Closet's graphic novel adaptation, William's robe repeatedly switches from white to purple, this is most likely a coloring mistake.
  • In the graphic novel adaptations William is one of the only character drawn with colored pupils whereas every other character (even the animatronics) have simple black dots. This was most likely to make his eyes more noticeable when he is in the Spring Bonnie suit. It could also be to better fit the novels unique description of William's eyes which were stated to be "dull" and "flat".
  • It’s unknown why Afton chose to remove the Spring Bonnie suit in The Fourth Closet as this caused more harm than good and resulted in him beginning to die from his injuries. It’s possible he grew tired of the suit and his facade as Springtrap, or he wanted a better method of immortality.
  • Unlike in most continuities, William did not use the Spring Bonnie suit to lure the children away, he instead used the Fredbear suit. Oddly enough however there a few things that contradict this. In the Fourth Closet, the spirits of the children remember Afton as Spring Bonnie and in The Silver Eyes, Jason spots a drawing depicting Spring Bonnie kidnapping one of the children. It’s likely this is a writing error.
  • A major plot hole in the second novel, The Twisted Ones is who activated the Twisted animatronics to begin with. Although, William claims that the animatronics solely follow his commands their murder spree started before he re-emerged as Springtrap. It’s possible he had reprogrammed them before his death.
